Our Workshops
Joyful Heart runs a non-traditional teen empowerment program for ages 11 - 17. Jen came to work with a Girl Scout group this summer at camp. Within five minutes she had them connecting to their bodies and each other in a whole new way. She helps people access their inner strengths and makes it fun at the same time!
- Stacey Bosworth, Executive Director, The Joyful Heart Foundation
Our Teen Empowerment Retreat for the Girl Scouts gave 25 young females an opportunity to learn more about themselves and each other for four days and three nights at our campsite in Holmes, New York. One of the highlights of this retreat was exposing the girls to something many of them had done for the first time. While sitting around a camp fire, they were led by Jennifer and chanted. The following afternoon girls had the chance to try yoga and they could not stop raving about it. Serving 73% of girls from a lower income homes, it is important to give these teens the option to try new things that they may not have otherwise been exposed to. Jennifer Edwards was able to give our girls a new door to open at our Retreat. When the retreat came to a close and girls had the chance to reflect on their week at camp girl’s comments on their evaluations said it all. Here is what one teen had to say, “My favorite part of the week was Yoga, it was hot outside, but yoga was fun!” Another participant left the following comment, “I have been to camp before but I never did Yoga before. Its relaxing and the instructor was fun.”
-Reesa Abraham, Program Administrator, Girl Scout Council Of Greater New York
